Brush little and often. Two or three short sessions a week prevent matting far better than one long one. Work in the direction of the coat, and always use a detangler on knots.

Coat maintenance
Bathe every 4–6 weeks with a pH-balanced dog shampoo. Rinse thoroughly — leftover product is the number one cause of dull, itchy coats.
Summer grooming
Don't shave double coats — the undercoat insulates against heat. Instead, book a de-shed and keep paws, belly and sanitary areas trimmed short.
Winter care
Trim between paw pads to stop ice balls forming. Wipe legs and belly after walks to remove salt and grit, and moisturise dry noses with dog-safe balm.
